Description

🔗 The Complete Method I Teach, Written Down — The Door, The Road, The Days Away: https://edbrannigan.com/ Nobody decides anything about you at your front door. It gets decided forty minutes earlier, somewhere ordinary, under fluorescent lights, with a lot of other people around. I spent twenty-five years in patrol, which mostly means I spent twenty-five years arriving after the fact and writing down what people told me. And after enough of those reports you notice the story has a shape. It almost never starts at the house. One thing before you watch. A burglar wants your house empty and is not following anybody. The person who watches you in a parking lot and turns onto your street behind you is doing a different job with a different name on the statute. I use the word because that is the word everybody searches. Keep the distinction, because it changes what you are watching for. And this is rare. Most property crime in this country involves nobody following anybody at all. I say so in the video, and I say why it is still worth twenty-six minutes. In this video: the three questions a stranger answers about you from forty feet away without ever coming near you. Why a well-lit parking space can be worse than a dark one. The reason the fuel pump is the best surveillance position in an American town. And number four, which is a place most folks visit alone on a weekend, and which is about the worst combination of factors you could design on purpose. Number one is not a store or a lot. It is the last hundred feet before your own door, and it is where the decision gets confirmed. Ninety seconds in your own driveway hands over the address, the layout, what is in the garage, and how attentive you are in the one place you are least attentive anywhere. There is also the part people improvise, which is what to do if you think somebody is behind you. Four right turns, and then a place that is lit and staffed and open. Not home. 📕 Off the List, three books, at edbrannigan.com. A hundred and eighty-six checks, in the order I would do them. QR code is in the video and the link is in the pinned comment. 💬 Which of the seven had you genuinely never thought about? My guess is the storage unit or the boxes at the kerb, but that comment section has surprised me before. And if you have ever had the feeling in the mirror on the way home, say so, because somebody reading is about to have it for the first time. Latch the gate. #homesecurity #personalsafety #situationalawareness #retiredpolice #safetytips #beingfollowed #parkinglotsafety #crimeprevention #familysafety #selfdefense
