On November 13, 2017, North Korean soldier Oh Chong Song made a desperate dash across one of the most heavily guarded borders on Earth. Driving a military Jeep through the Joint Security Area at Panmunjom, Oh raced toward South Korea until his vehicle became stuck just short of the boundary, forcing him to continue on foot as North Korean guards opened fire. Roughly 40 rounds were fired and at least five bullets struck him, but Oh managed to cross the Military Demarcation Line before collapsing unconscious in South Korean territory. Forty minutes later, South Korean soldiers crawled from cover to rescue him, and a U.S. Army Black Hawk rushed him to a hospital where doctors discovered catastrophic internal injuries, massive blood loss, and a severe parasitic infection. Against the odds, Oh survived multiple surgeries and eventually awoke to discover that footage of his extraordinary escape had spread around the world. The incident embarrassed North Korea, triggered findings that the 1953 Armistice Agreement had been violated, and led the regime to reinforce the escape route with new barriers, gates, trenches, and wheel spikes. This is the incredible true story of Oh Chong Song, the soldier who survived a hail of gunfire to escape North Korea, and the dramatic defection captured almost entirely on camera. --- Dark Footage showcases the most unbelievable photos and videos from history while telling the stories behind the camera.
