Why Japan Hated This Man

In 1984, Japan was gripped by a criminal campaign unlike anything it had ever seen. It began with the kidnapping of the president of confectionery giant Glico, but quickly escalated into a nationwide wave of extortion, arson, anonymous threats, and poisoned food warnings that shattered public confidence in some of the country's most recognizable brands. Calling themselves the Monster with 21 Faces, the mysterious group taunted police with mocking letters, staged elaborate ransom drops they never intended to collect, and repeatedly stayed one step ahead of an investigation involving tens of thousands of officers and more than a million police deployments. The only visual clue ever released was a grainy security camera image of an unidentified man calmly handling a box of candy in a convenience store—footage that became one of Japan's most haunting unsolved mysteries. More than forty years later, no one knows who the Monster really was, why the campaign suddenly ended, or whether the true motive was extortion, manipulation of the stock market, or something even more disturbing. This is the chilling story of the Monster with 21 Faces, the unsolved crime spree that terrorized Japan and remains one of the greatest criminal mysteries in modern history. --- Dark Footage showcases the most unbelievable photos and videos from history while telling the stories behind the camera.
