Taxi industry figure Oupa "Bafana" Sindane, co-accused with Joe Sibanyoni in the Kwaggafontein extortion case, failed to appear before the Madlanga Commission on 23 September 2026, submitting a medical certificate citing uncontrolled hypertension while simultaneously filing an urgent High Court application seeking to block the commission from ever subpoenaing or compelling him to testify again. Chairperson Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga and commissioners Baloyi and Khumalo interrogated advocate Thabani Masuku over the postponement application, with Commissioner Baloyi pointing out that Sindane had deposed to 38 pages of affidavits while supposedly in spiritual seclusion, and Madlanga catching that the seclusion ground was absent from the founding papers before Masuku accidentally revealed Sindane was on a mountain in traditional healing, prompting Madlanga to respond with the word sangoma.
