Description

In December 1938, a lighthouse keeper on a small island off the coast of Maine pulled a small gray figure out of the surf. It was alive. For eleven weeks, while a winter storm cut the island off from the mainland, he hid it in the warmest room of the tower and told no one. When it left, it taught him a secret signal for the lamp. He used it once, fourteen years later. Then he kept the page for the rest of his life. His son found the logbook decades later in a three-dollar box at an estate sale. This is the account of Henry Carver, a storm, a visitor nobody could explain, and a pattern of lamp signals still written in pencil on the last page of a leatherbound notebook. ⚠️ Please note: This story was sent in by a viewer. For privacy, the keeper's name and some landmarks have been changed. The account is based on a family tape, a letter and photocopied logbook pages. It has not been independently verified, and we present it as a story for your judgment. 📩 Have an encounter of your own? Send it in using the contact details below.
