A Chaplain Was Called to a Dying Gray in 1947 — The Question It Asked Him Never Left His Mind

A young Army chaplain is woken in the middle of the night in New Mexico, summer 1947. Armed guards lead him to a sealed room. On the bed lies a small gray being, and it has asked for a priest. Before it dies, it asks him one question. He carries it in silence for 53 years. In this story from Humanity Encounter, we follow Father Thomas Vance. We look at the Cold War secrecy of that summer and the coded note his daughter found after he died. That note revealed he had answered the wrong question. What happened in that room? Was it a hallucination, a Cold War experiment, or a memory changed by time? Or was it something else? ⏱ In this video: 0:00 The Hook 1:20 Where This Story Came From 2:00 The Summer of 1947 3:00 The Call in the Night 6:15 "Will Your God Forgive Us?" 8:45 A Lifetime of Silence 12:15 The Coded Note 14:00 Three Explanations 19:30 The Question for You 📩 Have an unexplained encounter of your own?
