We're going on a full retrospective to figure out how a dream team of creators ended up loving their own masterpiece to death by trying to "fix" its intentionally jagged edges. We'll break down the unparalleled interactive empathy of the 2013 video game and its divisive 2020 sequel, explore how Season 1 successfully translated the emotional architecture of the post-apocalypse, and pinpoint the exact moment Season 2 traded visceral dread for safe, sanitized television drama. From the systematic stripping of Ellie's competence and agency to the premature reveal of Abby's motives, we'll reveal how a franchise built on uncompromising moral ambiguity decayed into an overly-explained, CW-style soap opera that forgot to trust its audience.
