Description
Juliane Koepcke survived 11 days alone in the Amazon rainforest after falling two miles out of the sky — and it wasn't just luck. On Christmas Eve 1971, LANSA Flight 508 broke apart over Peru at 10,000 feet. Ninety-two people were on board. Seventeen-year-old Juliane, still strapped to her airplane seat, was the sole survivor.
Everyone says she lived because of a miracle. That's true — and it's the least interesting part. The fall was only the first impossible thing. What came after — the wounds, the infection, eleven days with no food — should have killed her a dozen different ways. Every one of those ways was defeated by something she already knew.
This is the real chain of physics, training, and decisions behind the most famous survival story in aviation history.
IN THIS VIDEO:
— Cold open: Two miles down, strapped to a seat — the fall that shouldn't be survivable
— Chapter 1: LANSA Flight 508 — the storm, the breakup, and the airline that never flew again
— Chapter 2: The physics of the fall — the spinning seat, the updrafts, and 100 feet of canopy
— Chapter 3: The girl who knew the forest — jungle schooling at the Panguana research station
— Chapter 4: What the jungle does first — infection, the candy, and the rule: follow water downstream
— Chapter 5: The gasoline — the hut, the lumberjacks, and the rescue on day 11
— Chapter 6 + Closing: The full chain — and why she went back to the Amazon
Not luck. Not a miracle. A chain — of physics, training, and decisions — each link improbable, all of them holding.
