Description

Keeping the MG34 machine gun fed in combat required a steady supply of ammunition belts, and loading hundreds of individual 7.92mm rounds by hand was slow and impractical, especially for tank crews who needed to reload quickly between engagements. To solve this, German forces used a tool called the "Gurtfüller" — a hand-cranked belt-loading machine that fed loose cartridges into reusable metal belts far faster than doing it manually. Rounds were arranged in a feed tray in whatever sequence was needed, such as mixing standard ball ammunition with tracer rounds, and each turn of the crank fed cartridges into the belt in sequence. Because German machine gun belts were reusable metal-link designs rather than disposable disintegrating belts, tools like the Gurtfüller made it practical to refill and reuse the same belts repeatedly throughout a unit's deployment, rather than relying on a constant supply of fresh ones. It's a small, easily overlooked piece of wartime engineering that quietly supported one of the most feared machine guns of the war. #wwii #worldwarii #worldwar2 #history #historyfacts #historyshorts #historia #historical #ww2history #ww2facts #wehrmacht #mg34 #machinegun #germanarmy #tankcrew #militaryhistory #documentary #education #weapons #engineering #historylovers #fyp #edit #warthunder #warthundertanks #phonk #memes #didyouknow
