Description

📖 Get The Old Mexican Way, every old way written down: https://oldmexicanway.com Every morning of my childhood in Guadalajara, before the coffee, my mother boiled the water. Fifty years later, a 2024 study found that boiling tap water and pouring it through a simple filter pulled out up to 90% of tiny plastic particles, in hard water. Here is exactly how they did it, how to do it at home, and the honest truth about what it does and does not do. THE TRICK 🔥 Tap water in a steel or enamel pot (not a plastic kettle). Full rolling boil for 5 minutes. ⏳ Lid on, fire off, let it cool completely. Do not stir. ☕ Pour slowly from the top through a paper coffee filter in a funnel into a glass jar. Leave the last bit in the pot. THE SEVEN 1️⃣ Hervir el agua: boil 5 minutes, cool, pour through a filter. 2️⃣ Why it works: the white crust (el sarro). Calcium in hard water turns to tiny specks as it boils and wraps around the plastic. 3️⃣ Your water decides: in the study, about 90% in the hardest water, about 84% in medium-hard, about a third in softer water, about a quarter in truly soft water. A white crust in your kettle = hard water. Your water company's yearly report lists the hardness. 4️⃣ The filter is half of it. Boiling gathers the plastic; the filter removes it. Look for the gray-white film on the paper. 5️⃣ Put the air back: pour it between two jars a few times. Never pour hot water into plastic. 6️⃣ Store it in glass, steel, or plain UNGLAZED clay. Never the shiny glazed barro: old glazes can carry lead. 7️⃣ What boiling cannot do: it does not remove lead, nitrates, salt or chemicals, and it concentrates them a little. Old house or private well = test your water. A "chemical" notice from your utility = do not boil, use sealed water. The honest word: the study was done in a lab, with plastic added to tap water so it could be counted. It is one good study. Tiny plastic has been found in people, but nobody knows yet exactly what it does. This trick does not cure, prevent or detox anything. It only puts less plastic in your glass. Who profits: bottled water by the case, the pitcher filter and its refill cartridge every two months, and the new "plastic detox" powders. Nobody makes a dollar from a woman with a steel pot, a lid and a coffee filter. Tonight, do one: boil a pot for five minutes, lid on, go to bed. In the morning, pour it through a coffee filter and look at the paper. Did YOUR mother boil the water too? Is there a white crust in your kettle? Tell me, and your county. I read every one. The study: Yu, Wang, Liu, Li & Zeng, "Drinking Boiled Tap Water Reduces Human Intake of Nanoplastics and Microplastics," Environmental Science & Technology Letters, February 2024. microplastics in water, how to remove microplastics, boiling water microplastics, boiled tap water, coffee filter trick, hard water, nanoplastics, drinking water safety, toxic kitchen, mexican mother, hervir el agua, the mexican way, old ways, kitchen hacks, garden hacks
