He then ruled Israel from Samaria for twenty years. The Bible describes Pekah’s reign as a period marked by conspiracy, assassination, warfare, political alliances, invasion, and enormous bloodshed. This animated Bible story of Pekah follows the rise and fall of one of Israel’s kings, from Pekah’s conspiracy against Pekahiah to his reign as King of Israel. Pekah later joined Rezin king of Aram in war against Ahaz king of Judah, and their forces besieged Jerusalem. Second Chronicles records devastating losses for Judah during this conflict, including 120,000 warriors killed in one day and 200,000 women, sons, and daughters taken captive by the Israelite army before the prophet Oded confronted the returning forces. Pekah’s kingdom eventually faced the growing power of the Assyrian Empire. During his reign, Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria captured several Israelite territories, including parts of Gilead, Galilee, and Naphtali, and deported their inhabitants to Assyria. Pekah’s own story ended through the same kind of conspiracy that had brought him to power: Hoshea son of Elah plotted against Pekah, killed him, and became king in his place.
