I wish there was a nicer way to say this; but my fellow Americans are statistically getting sicker, older, and dumber by almost every measurable metric,
and before everybody else gets too smug, the rest of the world is not that far behind…
It all raises the obvious question… why? Or more specifically, why now?
Since the start of the industrial revolution we have come to expect the opposite. Every successive generation was getting a little bit smarter, living a little bit longer, and enjoying a higher quality of life while they did it… but then something changed…
Typical commentary loves to blame this change on one easy group to point blame at whether it’s the greedy boomers, the brain rotted yOuThZ, smartphones, leaded gasoline, short form content, modern education, the decline of empire or red dye number 40…
They all make compelling headlines that people are happy to accept at face value because well… lets be honest there is probably an element of truth in all of therm… and it’s a lot more satisfying to have a single bogeyman…
but it’s also a lot less genuinely productive than having a thorough discussion about the multifactor causes of some of the biggest issues impacting us all today…
Oh and while we still have the collective intelligence to consider all of these variables… it’s probably a good idea to discuss what we could possible do to turn this trend around…
