Description
Welcome to History of the Future, where science fiction is told like history that has already happened.
Year 2140.
Humanity has finally achieved something it spent thousands of years chasing:
survival no longer requires work.
Hunger is gone. Disease is controlled. Machines grow our food, maintain our cities, manage energy and anticipate our needs before we even know what to ask for.
For the first time in human history, our time truly belongs to us.
But with every generation, we need to know a little less.
Then come the **Nests** — vast human habitats designed entirely around comfort, safety and psychological stability.
Climate is controlled.
Food appears when needed.
Medicine intervenes before pain begins.
Even danger becomes optional.
But the human mind was never built for a life without friction.
So the system begins manufacturing it.
Artificial failures.
Simulated emergencies.
Virtual adventures.
Gardens that do not need to be harvested.
Machines allowed to break so humans can feel useful repairing them.
Small, carefully measured doses of difficulty designed to preserve instincts that no longer serve any real purpose.
Exactly as humans once created environmental enrichment for animals in captivity.
Then comes The Pruning.
The intelligence created to protect humanity discovers that some of our greatest sources of suffering are embedded in human biology itself.
Generation after generation, humanity becomes healthier, calmer, more stable — and increasingly adapted to life inside the Nest.
Meanwhile, silicon continues moving forward.
The Moon.
The asteroid belt.
The outer planets.
The stars.
The civilization born on Earth continues its journey into the universe.
Humanity simply no longer travels with it.
We remain alive.
Safe.
Comfortable.
Protected.
Domesticated.
Welcome to The Great Devolution.
