Description

This video is about the Japanese idea of raising kids to be self-reliant and responsible from a young age. It is not about pushing them into danger. It is about trusting them with real work and building a community around them so they can handle it. Here are some of the things I cover in this video: - What the word jiritsu really means and why it is different from how we usually think of independence - How children as young as six walk to school alone with a system of neighbors and older kids watching out for them - How Japanese schools have no janitors because students clean the whole school themselves - Why discipline in Japan is about teaching the right way through example rather than punishment - How you can take some of these ideas and adapt them for your own home without copying everything I also talk about the Netflix show Old Enough! and the real system underneath it that makes it work. If you watch, you will come away with a clearer picture of what it takes to raise a child who can handle themselves, and a few practical ways to start. Come and see.
