Description

You do not need the sleeping car to sleep. You can get a genuinely good night's rest in an Amtrak coach seat, for a fraction of the price of a room, if you set it up right. Most people never do, and they come home saying coach is impossible. Here is exactly how I turn a coach seat into a bed. I'm Stanley Pike, and in this video I walk you through it step by step, using Amtrak's own advice and what I've learned after 65: the cold that ruins more nights than anything (coach gives you no blanket, so bring your own), how to choose a quiet window seat in the Quiet Car, what to pack in your little sleep kit, and the one adjustment almost nobody makes, reclining the seat all the way with your feet on the footrest. Everything here you can do on your very next overnight trip, and none of it costs more than the snacks you'd buy anyway. Not affiliated with Amtrak. Coach seat features, the Quiet Car, bringing your own blanket, and the reclining/footrest tips are from Amtrak's own "Ten Tips for Sleeping Overnight in Coach" and general long-distance riding, current as of 2026. Amtrak can change its equipment and policies, so check for your own train. If you'd like my whole system for pricing an Amtrak trip in the right order, it's in my ebook, How I Saved $5,000 on Amtrak After 65: https://stanleypike.com #amtrak #coachclass #seniortravel
