Are You Being Tracked? The Hidden Cost of Safety

School monitoring software is reshaping how students communicate, creating a surveillance state within the classroom. We analyze a recent survey revealing that 58% of students feel unable to share their true thoughts online due to constant observation. While these platforms are marketed for safety, the reality is that the mere possibility of being watched alters student behavior and self-censorship. This shift suggests that the widespread adoption of monitoring technology is fundamentally changing the environment for digital expression. By examining the disconnect between the stated goals of safety tools and the chilling effect they have on campus, we can better understand the long-term consequences of tracking student activity. This breakdown explores why students are becoming increasingly cautious about what they express in online spaces.
