Description

A Boeing 767 touched down in Miami at 160 knots, roughly 3,750 feet past the runway threshold. The first officer had expressed concerns about the speed. Why did they keep going—and why couldn’t they stop? The NTSB’s preliminary report offers new details on the fatal 21 Air runway overrun involving a flight operating for Amazon Air. In this update, I compare those findings with my earlier ADS-B analysis and break down the decisions and aircraft systems at the center of this accident. We’ll look at: • Touchdown speed and how much runway they used before landing • The first officer’s warnings and the decision to continue the approach • Late flap selection and questions about the landing checklist • Spoilers, thrust reversers, and the left main gear’s delayed settling • What the crew’s schedule tells us—and doesn’t tell us—about fatigue The investigation is ongoing. We’ll separate what the preliminary report establishes from my analysis of what may have happened. Five people lost their lives. Understanding how this approach became an accident matters. Stay safe. #AviationSafety #Boeing767 #AmazonAir
