Pandora's Box: The Version They Want You to Forget

For 2,800 years, the Greek poets called her "the beautiful evil." But modern scholars are tearing that story apart. 📚 SOURCES: This episode draws from Hesiod's Works and Days (8th century BC) — the OLDEST Greek source for Pandora's myth — alongside modern feminist reinterpretation (Natalie Haynes, "Pandora's Jar" 2020; Mary Beard, "Women & Power" 2017). Both perspectives are explored. In this episode of Mortal Myths, we examine the contradictions in the original Greek text: ▸ Prometheus and the stolen fire ▸ Hesiod's "beautiful evil" — Zeus's vengeful design ▸ The first woman shaped from clay ▸ Why she was given a "shameless mind" by Hermes (Hesiod's actual words) ▸ The pithos (jar — not a box, as Renaissance translators wrongly called it) ▸ What Hesiod said remained at the bottom — and what it might really mean 🏛️ Subscribe for mythology REIMAGINED — exploring how ancient stories speak to modern audiences. ⚡ Episode 1 — Zeus vs Cronus: https://youtu.be/3RltXvfXj6c 🐍 Episode 2 — Medusa's Real Story: https://youtu.be/B3iPGQxcvzE 🌹 Episode 3 — Hades & Persephone: https://youtu.be/AAu4P2wSSAA Hesiod's tradition vs modern reinterpretation — which do you believe?
