This documentary follows that trail from the omen tablets of Nineveh to a school text found in Egypt and a lost myth dug up in Turkey in 1951. Along the way, the tablets begin to name other gods, older ones, whose power was taken from them. It also looks at the modern Anunnaki interpretation of Mars and why mainstream scholars reject it. Then it asks what the scribes believed they were really watching. 🔬 THE SCIENCE: Babylonian astronomers were some of the most precise sky watchers of the ancient world. They tracked the roughly 780-day cycle of Mars, recorded its backward retrograde loop, and by the Seleucid era built predictive tables on long planetary cycles. Their observations survive in the great omen series Enuma Anu Enlil and the compendium MUL.APIN, edited by Assyriologists over the last half century. Modern planetary science adds a second layer. NASA's MAVEN orbiter has measured how the solar wind is still stripping the Martian atmosphere today. It has also shown what happened after Mars lost its global magnetic field billions of years ago. NASA's InSight lander recorded the seismic activity of the planet's interior for four years. This video places the ancient record and the modern data side by side.
