Description
Atari built a $2 billion video game empire, dominated American living rooms, and became one of the biggest names in gaming. Then a series of disastrous business decisions helped turn that empire into mountains of unwanted cartridges, retailer returns, and eventually a literal landfill.
This documentary explores the rise and fall of Atari, from the Atari 2600 and its enormously profitable cartridge business to Activision, Pac-Man, E.T., overproduction, collapsing consumer trust, and the Video Game Crash of 1983. Atari did not fall because of one bad game. It created a system that kept producing more games even as customers stopped believing in them.
Bagholder Association breaks down how one of gaming’s most iconic companies managed to bury the empire it had spent a decade building.
