📘 Get Make Them Pay here: https://knowrightsuk.gumroad.com/l/know-your-rights
There is a twenty-minute window in every house in this country, between the television going off and everybody going upstairs, and what happens in it matters more than most people realise. Most home security content is about things you buy — locks, cameras, alarms, and somebody selling you all three. This is not about any of that. Every one of the five things here is free, takes about a minute, and is something you either do tonight or you do not. And the police actively recommend having a routine for exactly this, in those words, which is the reason this video exists in the shape it does.
Here is what we cover:
The police guidance that says to get into the habit of your own course of action when you lock up
Why the back door gets pulled shut while the front gets locked, and why that is the wrong way round
"Fit back and front doors with a five-lever mortice deadlock — and use it" — those last three words
Why a deadlock that has not been thrown is simply a latch
The side gate at 1.8 metres, and why that does not contradict the 1 metre front fence
Where the police say keys belong, including the instruction to take them to bed with you
Why the hook in the hall is within arm's reach of the letterbox, and the car key is usually on it
Shutting the curtains, leaving lights on, and going out to the street once to see what is on display
Why a wheelie bin is described as a climbing aid to the first floor
The five-step order, and why a fixed sequence survives being tired
Everything here is tied to real sources, including the police.uk and Metropolitan Police door security and home security checklists, West Yorkshire Police guidance on keys, Thames Valley Police's home security guide and Secured by Design, all checked on 24 September 2026.
One honest note. There is no statistic here about what percentage of entries are at the back, and nothing anybody supposedly said in a survey of offenders. It circulates constantly, I could not find it on a police page, so it is not here. I have named no alarm, camera or lock brand. And one item I had planned to include — the key left in the inside of the lock — came out entirely, because it is on locksmith sites and not on a police page.
FREE HELP FIRST. Every item in this video is on a police website for nothing, and your local force's crime prevention pages carry the same advice for your area.

England and Wales — Scotland has its own arrangements. General information about published guidance, not advice about your property or insurance. If somebody is inside your home, that is 999, immediately, and you do not go and look.
Has your street had a spate of this? Type the county, nothing else.
