Description
Today, only one recognized human species remains: Homo sapiens.
But for millions of years, our family tree was crowded.
Other humans and human relatives walked differently, survived in radically different environments, spread across continents, made tools, hunted, adapted to Ice Age worlds, and sometimes lived alongside one another.
In this Fun & Factopedia documentary, we travel through more than 6 million years of human evolution - from some of the earliest possible evidence of upright walking to Australopithecus, Paranthropus, early Homo, Homo erectus, Neanderthals, Denisovans, the tiny humans of Flores, the mysterious humans of Luzon, and eventually… us.
But this was never a straight evolutionary march toward Homo sapiens.
Human evolution was a branching tree. At different points, several human lineages shared the planet — and some even had children together.
So what happened to all the others?
This documentary explores the fossils, archaeology, genetics, migrations, extinctions, interbreeding, and scientific discoveries that continue to reshape the human family tree.

🔬 SCIENTIFIC NOTE
Paleoanthropologists continue to debate the classification and evolutionary relationships of several hominin groups. Reconstructions of extinct humans — particularly species known from fragmentary fossils — are scientifically informed visual interpretations based on available evidence and should not be considered exact portraits.
