Description

What should go in an urban bug-out bag when you can’t leave the city—and the emergency shelter might already be full? A viewer in a densely populated California city asked a question that inspired this video. She’s preparing her family for an earthquake or wildfire, but escaping into the woods isn’t her plan. She needs to get from home to somewhere safer, possibly on foot, and be prepared if help takes longer than expected. In this video, I discuss six practical priorities: • Staying mobile without carrying an overwhelming load • Water and food when stores aren’t available • Dealing with city hazards • Communication and navigation if your phone fails • Shelter and sleeping when plans change • Medication, hygiene, documents, and cash This isn’t about buying every survival gadget. It’s about understanding the problems your bag needs to solve—and choosing supplies that fit your family, your location, and what you can actually carry. I live in Maine, where emergency planning can look very different. Thank you to the viewer who reminded me that not everyone has the option of heading into the country. What would you do differently for a city emergency? Share your ideas in the comments without revealing your address or private evacuation details. General preparedness discussion—not a substitute for local emergency instructions. Follow evacuation guidance and confirm which shelters are open; don’t assume camping nearby is safe or permitted. #UrbanPreparedness #BugOutBag #EmergencyPreparedness
