Description
In 334 BC, Alexander the Great conquered the known world and he knew that controlling his image was just as vital as winning battles.
Fearing that lesser artists would mangle his likeness or exaggerate his physical traits, Alexander issued a strict royal decree: only one sculptor, Lysippos, was legally permitted to carve his portrait.
From the strategic abandonment of the classic Greek beard to the calculated "neck tilt" and upward gaze, discover how a single marble bust became the ultimate piece of ancient political branding.
