Description
Japan’s Bullet Train Was Running at 270 km/h When the Earthquake Struck! 😱🚄 | Bullet Train | #shorts
---
Have you ever wondered how Japan’s bullet trains can react when a major earthquake strikes? 😱🚄🇯🇵
On March 11, 2011, the Great East Japan Earthquake struck while 27 Tohoku Shinkansen trains were operating, with some traveling at around 270 km/h near Sendai. Yet none of the passenger Shinkansen trains derailed, and no passengers were injured.
The key was Japan’s earthquake early-warning technology. Seismographs detected the earthquake and triggered the railway’s safety system, which cut power and automatically activated emergency braking before the strongest shaking reached the trains.
Japan had already been developing earthquake detection systems for the Shinkansen for years, including an Earthquake Early Warning system introduced in 1998. This technology is designed to give trains valuable time to slow down or stop when dangerous seismic activity is detected. ⚙️🌏
The result during the 2011 earthquake was remarkable: no passenger Shinkansen train derailed and no passengers were injured by the earthquake. 🤯🚄
