Catholic Daily Mass Readings – October 16, 2026 | You Are Worth More Than Sparrows

Join us for the Catholic Daily Mass Readings and Gospel reflection for Friday, October 16, 2026—the Friday of the Twenty-eighth Week in Ordinary Time, Lectionary 471. In Ephesians 1:11–14, Saint Paul reminds us that we have been chosen in Christ according to God’s loving purpose. Having heard and believed the Gospel of salvation, we have been sealed with the promised Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the first installment of our eternal inheritance—a divine sign that we belong to God and are being prepared for complete redemption. The Responsorial Psalm proclaims: “Blessed the people the Lord has chosen to be his own.” In Luke 12:1–7, Jesus warns His disciples against hypocrisy. Nothing concealed will remain hidden, and everything spoken in darkness will eventually be brought into the light. Christ calls us to live with honesty, integrity and a sincere faith. Jesus then offers a deeply comforting assurance. Not even one small sparrow escapes God’s notice, and every hair on our heads has been counted. “Do not be afraid. You are worth more than many sparrows.” God knows every detail of our lives. He sees our struggles, hears our prayers and understands the fears we carry. Our worth does not depend upon success, possessions or the opinions of others. We are valuable because we belong to God. Let us reject hypocrisy, walk openly in God’s light and trust that our heavenly Father will never forget us.
