Description

During the pandemic, Orange County Supervisor Andrew Do helped steer more than $10 million in federal COVID relief money to the Viet America Society, a nonprofit that was supposed to deliver meals to homebound seniors and where his daughter held top positions. He admitted taking more than $550,000 in bribes, and the U.S. Attorney called it "Robin Hood in reverse." Do is now serving five years in federal prison. A year later, the county says only about $4 million has been recovered out of more than $13 million it lost, and the nonprofit's founder is living in Taipei. So where did the rest of the seniors' money go? In this video: How a former prosecutor married to a judge sent relief money to his daughter's group The meals that could not be accounted for, and the $1 million memorial that was never built The FBI raid, the bribes, and the Tustin home that was forfeited Peter Pham's flight to Taiwan, and the daughter who passed the bar exam The warnings that were ignored in 2023 and 2024 How much money has come back, one year after Do went to prison Andrew Do pleaded guilty. Peter Pham has not been charged. Rhiannon Do entered a diversion agreement and was not charged. Judge Cheri Pham has not been accused of any wrongdoing.
