Description

Two of the three things squeezing your check this year can be stopped with one piece of paper each. The third has a door that closes for good on New Year's Day. Everything in this video is disclosed in advance, in writing, by law. None of it is a cut to your benefit. What decides whether it costs you money is which form gets filed, and before which date. That is the whole video. 🔹 The cliff. One dollar over the income line costs you the full step for the whole year. There is a harder version of the same cliff for couples who file separately. 🔹 The Medicaid window that just got shorter. Retroactive coverage for nursing home care is being cut from three months to two for applications filed on or after January 1. One month of care is roughly $9,600. 🔹 The letter with thirty days on it. Overpayment recovery now defaults to 50% of your monthly benefit, not 10%. File inside thirty days and collection pauses. SSA-561, SSA-632, or SSA-634 — and you can file more than one. 💡 The four dates: W-4V before December 31 · SSA-44 when the surcharge letter arrives · the Medicaid application by December 31, not January · and thirty days from the date on an overpayment notice. 📞 Free official help: Social Security 1-800-772-1213 · Medicare 1-800-633-4227 · your state's Medicaid office · your state's free Medicare counselling service. 📚 Sources: the Internal Revenue Service on the new senior deduction and Form W-4V · the Social Security Administration on Medicare premium surcharges, Form SSA-44, and overpayment recovery · Medicare.gov on income-related premium amounts and skilled nursing coverage · the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services on the retroactive-eligibility changes · the Social Security Administration's cost-of-living announcements · national nursing home cost survey data. ⚠️ Disclaimer: not legal, tax, or financial advice. I am not an adviser and this is not advice about your own case. Dollar limits and dates change — confirm the current figures with Social Security, Medicare, or your state before acting.
