Description

Description: A rare look at John James Audubon (1785–1851), the legendary American naturalist, artist, and ornithologist best known for his monumental work The Birds of America. This remarkable daguerreotype was made by Mathew Brady around 1847–1848 and is believed to be the only surviving photograph of Audubon taken from life. More than 175 years later, we can still look directly into the face of the man behind one of the most famous works of natural history ever created. This historic portrait has been carefully restored and brought to life while preserving Audubon’s authentic historical appearance. The original daguerreotype is preserved by the Cincinnati Art Museum. Follow Real Faces of the Past for more authentic historical photographs, faithfully restored and brought back to life. #johnjamesaudubon #audubon #birdsofamerica #historicalphotos #photorestoration #shorts
