Description

Something huge just flew over your picnic. Could it snatch you? Eight animals that look like they could carry a human away, ranked from "not even close" to "the only one that actually can". To snatch you, an animal has to lift all of you off the ground, and the average adult weighs about 136 pounds. A bald eagle can fly off with about 5 pounds. A Komodo dragon doesn't lift you at all: it bites once and waits. An elephant's trunk has around 40,000 muscles and could lift more than five of you, but it doesn't want you. Quetzalcoatlus was as tall as a giraffe and would rather swallow you. Orcas surf onto the beach to grab sea lion pups, yet no wild orca has ever killed a human. Twenty million driver ants could carry you away, one tiny piece at a time. And a gorilla named Binti Jua really did carry a little boy away, straight to the zookeepers. Only one of them has been doing it to us since before we were human.
