Description

The smell people notice on you after fifty does not come from your armpits, and it does not come from your breath. So the deodorant never touched it and neither did the mouthwash. It comes from four patches of skin you have almost certainly never washed on purpose — and from a room you stopped opening the windows in. You cannot smell either one on yourself. That is not a failure of your nose. It is how the nose works, and it is the reason the people around you have known about this for years. In 1999 Shiseido published work identifying the compound behind it, 2-nonenal, produced when fatty acids on ageing skin oxidise. In 2013 Mandom identified a second compound, diacetyl, coming off the scalp — which is what people actually get when they lean in to hug you. Both are real, measured and published. A great deal of what is sold as the cure is not, and I say so in the video where it applies. In this video: the four places to wash and why your own nose cannot reach any of them, why the pillowcase holds this better than the skin that produced it, the laundry temperature that matters more than any specialist soap, and why cologne makes it worse rather than better. And the finding at the end changes who you think can smell what. For most body odours, somebody in the room is getting away with not noticing. For this one, nobody is. 📘 The Japanese Home Method — link on the channel description 💬 Which of the eleven had you never once heard of? #japanesehabits #bodyodor #agingwell #hygiene #over50 #japaneselifestyle #selfcare #healthyhabits #nonenal #cleanliving
