Description

Napoleon conquered half of Europe, but one hunt went badly wrong. His chief of staff, Marshal Berthier, ordered a thousand rabbits for a hunt in his park outside Paris. His man bought tame hutch rabbits instead of wild ones, and the hungry rabbits charged the Emperor, flanked him and drove him back to his carriage. Source: The Memoirs of Baron Thiébault, vol. 2, chapter IX, "Napoleon's rabbit-shooting" (translated by A. J. Butler, 1896). The story comes from this one memoir; the exact year is not given (it is often dated to 1807). #history #napoleon #shorts
