Description

**jmꜣḫy (imakhy)** means **“honoured”** or **“revered”**—an ancient Egyptian expression of respect. This epithet often appears before the deceased’s name in funerary inscriptions. The double reed leaves complete the **-y** ending, giving us the full word. Here, we read it on the **coffin of Khnumnakht**, made around **1850–1750 BCE** and now at **The Met in New York**. Save this lesson—you may recognise the word on your next museum visit. 🏛️ Photo: The Metropolitan Museum of Art · Public Domain #AncientEgypt #Hieroglyphs #LearnHieroglyphs #Egyptology #BeautifulHistory
