Description
12 Must-Grow Vegetables - Harvest Year After Year
In the winter of 1932, my great-grandmother Ada Mae fed eleven people off a half acre up this holler, and she never once set foot in a grocery store. She did it with twelve vegetables. Every one of them still grows in your backyard today.
So why did we stop growing them?
In this video I count down the 12 vegetables every homestead and backyard garden should always have in the ground. They come straight from my granddaddy's leather garden journal, with the year he first planted each one. For every crop you'll learn how much food one row really gives you, what it saves you at the checkout, and how to plant it the old way. You'll also hear the part nobody talks about: how each one got pushed off the family table by bagged salad, canned beets, baby carrots, imported garlic, and seed you have to buy back every spring.
You'll also find out:
Which humble crop feeds next year's garden for free, and why the fertilizer companies would rather you forgot it
What scientists discovered in 2012 about the tomatoes sold in grocery stores
How a law passed in 1970 changed the seed rack forever
Why the potato is the one crop that holds the whole table together
This is not prepper doomer talk. It's the kitchen garden your grandparents knew by heart, and it's yours to take back. Start with just one row this week.
What did your grandparents grow that nobody in your family grows anymore? Tell me in the comments. The one with the most replies is the one I build next.
Subscribe and join us as we bring the old kitchen garden back onto the homestead, one row at a time.
