Niecy Nash-Betts - I Want To Thank Me 🏆✨

She stepped up to that microphone and said the words the world needed to hear. I want to thank me. Not the studio. Not the network. Not the people who finally believed in her. Me. For believing in me. For doing what they said I could not do. And then she looked out at that room — full of the most powerful people in the industry and she said it out loud. Go on girl with your bad self. You did that. Because Niecy Nash-Betts had been in this industry for decades. She had been overlooked, underestimated, put in a box, and told what she was and was not capable of. And then she won. On her own terms. In her own time. But she didn’t stop there. Because this wasn’t just her moment. She made sure of that. She accepted that award on behalf of every Black and Brown woman who has gone unheard yet over believed. Glenda Cleveland. Sandra Bland. Breonna Taylor. Women whose names deserved to fill rooms like that one. And she closed with the line that defines everything she is as an artist and a human being. My job is to speak truth to power. And baby, I’m going to do it till the day I die. This is what it looks like to win with your whole chest. This is what it looks like to rise without forgetting who you rose for.
