Arduino code for automatic car parking toll gate - https://howtofunda.com/automatic-car-parking-toll-gate-using-arduino-project-code/
## Introduction
Good morning, respected judges, teachers, and my dear friends.
Today, I am going to explain my electronics project, the **Automatic Car Parking Toll Gate Using Arduino**.
Nowadays, automatic toll gates are used at toll plazas, parking areas, and restricted entry points. These systems help control vehicle movement and reduce the need for manual operation.
My project demonstrates how a toll gate can open automatically when a vehicle approaches and close after the vehicle passes.
## Components Required
The main components used in this project are:
1. Arduino UNO
2. Ultrasonic sensor
3. Servo motor
4. Jumper wires
5. USB cable or suitable power supply
6. Cardboard, coloured paper, and craft materials for the model
7. Toy car for demonstration
## Working Principle
This project works on the principle of ultrasonic distance measurement.
The ultrasonic sensor sends sound waves and detects the reflected waves from an approaching vehicle. The Arduino calculates the distance based on the time taken for the sound waves to return.
When the vehicle comes within the preset distance, the Arduino sends a signal to the servo motor.
The servo motor rotates and lifts the toll gate barrier, allowing the vehicle to pass.
After the vehicle moves away, the gate closes automatically according to the programmed conditions.
## How Does It Work?
**Step 1: Vehicle Detection**
When a car approaches the toll gate, the ultrasonic sensor detects the vehicle and measures its distance.
**Step 2: Signal Processing**
The sensor sends distance information to the Arduino UNO. The Arduino compares the measured distance with the programmed threshold.
**Step 3: Gate Opens**
When the vehicle is detected within the specified distance, the Arduino commands the servo motor to rotate and raise the barrier.
**Step 4: Vehicle Passes**
The car moves through the toll gate while the barrier remains open for the programmed period or until the appropriate exit condition is met.
**Step 5: Gate Closes**
Once the vehicle has passed and the closing condition is satisfied, the servo motor returns the barrier to its closed position.
This process can repeat whenever another vehicle approaches.
## Applications
This project can be used as a demonstration of automation for:
- Toll plazas
- Shopping mall parking areas
- Apartment parking entrances
- Office parking lots
- School and college parking areas
- Restricted vehicle entry points
## Advantages
The main advantages of this project are:
- Reduces the need for manual gate operation.
- Demonstrates automatic vehicle detection.
- Helps control vehicle entry and exit.
- Can reduce waiting time in suitable applications.
- Provides a foundation for developing smart parking systems.
## Future Improvements
In the future, this project can be improved by adding RFID cards, number plate recognition, an LCD display, a vehicle counter, and a payment system.
These features can make it more similar to a real automated toll collection system.
## Conclusion
To conclude, the Automatic Car Parking Toll Gate is a useful electronics project that demonstrates the practical application of Arduino, ultrasonic sensors, and servo motors.
It shows how sensors and programmed controllers can automate vehicle access and make parking systems more convenient.
Thank you!
Five Viva Questions with Answers
1. What is the main aim of this project?
Answer: The main aim is to open and close a toll gate automatically when a vehicle is detected.
2. What is the function of the Arduino UNO?
Answer: Arduino UNO processes the sensor information and controls the servo motor according to the program.
3. How does an ultrasonic sensor detect a vehicle?
Answer: It sends ultrasonic sound waves and measures the time taken for the reflected waves to return, allowing it to estimate the distance to the vehicle.
4. Why is a servo motor used in this project?
Answer: The servo motor rotates to a specified angle to raise and lower the toll gate barrier.
5. Does this model collect toll payments automatically?
Answer: No. The basic model only demonstrates automatic gate operation. RFID, payment processing, or other additional components would be required to demonstrate toll payment collection.
