Description
Shimaenaga: 58 Days From Eggs to the Wild Flock | Wild Birds
Follow the life of Shimaenaga in the wild forests of Hokkaido, from a quiet snowy winter to the first signs of spring and the return of cold autumn air. This wildlife documentary tells the story of a devoted Shimaenaga pair as they build a hidden nest from moss, lichen, spider silk, and soft feathers.
Inside the tiny nest, four fragile Shimaenaga chicks hatch into the world, blind, featherless, and completely dependent on their parents. As the forest grows greener, the parents work tirelessly to find caterpillars, insects, and small prey to keep their young alive. But life in the wild is never safe, and danger soon changes the family forever.
Day by day, the surviving chicks grow stronger. They develop feathers, learn to move, leave the nest, and begin following their parents through the forest. Three young Shimaenaga slowly learn how to fly, forage, and survive on their own.
By the end of the journey, Shimaenaga life comes full circle as the young birds join a larger flock, ready to face the changing seasons of Hokkaido.
