Description
Israel's national blood center faced an impossible problem: how do you design a life-saving facility that is never allowed to fail, even while under heavy rocket fire? The old solution of physically carrying sensitive medical equipment into a reinforced bunker wasn't scaling. So engineers devised a radical new solution: build the armor in, not on.
In this documentary, we explore the $135 million Marcus National Blood Services Center in Ramla. Discover the engineering principles behind burying a 550,000-square-foot facility 50 feet underground, how reinforced concrete and heavy blast doors form an impenetrable shell, and how advanced overpressure air-filtration systems protect the blood supply from invisible chemical and biological threats.
