Description

Standing on the dramatic cliffs of Tintagel Castle in Cornwall, England, this 2.4-metre bronze sculpture looks like a legendary king watching over the Atlantic Ocean. Installed in 2016, the sculpture is called Gallos and was created by artist Rubin Eynon. The bearded figure wears a crown and a hooded cloak, with both hands resting on the hilt of a sword. Parts of the sculpture are deliberately left open, allowing the surrounding landscape and ocean to remain visible through the figure. According to English Heritage, Gallos does not represent one specific historical person. Instead, it draws inspiration from the legend of King Arthur and Tintagel's royal past. After the Roman period, Tintagel was an important site associated with the rulers of Dumnonia. The dramatic ruins and their connection to Arthurian legends have helped make this coastal location one of Britain's most intriguing historic places. Even the installation was remarkable. A helicopter was used to transport the sculpture to the castle's rugged clifftop, where access involves a challenging route with hundreds of steps. 📸 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/archevault 📺 Main Channel: @Archevault
