Description

The Wakhan Corridor was drawn to be empty, yet about 18,000 people live along it today. Britain and Russia drew this strip of Afghanistan in 1895 so their empires would never share a border. It runs 217 miles and is barely 12 miles wide at its narrowest. Wakhi farmers work the valley floor. Higher up, about 1,500 Kyrgyz herders move their tents across ground that freezes more than 300 days a year. At dawn, Kyrgyz women milk the yaks in the freezing air. Past the last village a car can reach, every sack of flour goes on by yak and horse. This 4K travel documentary shows how two peoples came to share one valley by altitude, and how families get by with almost no roads, doctors or power. It also explains why a Pamiri house is built around five named pillars, and why roofed pens now keep herds safe from the snow leopard. #traveldocumentary #wakhancorridor #afghanistan #pamir
