Description
🚢 Planning your next cruise? I’ve put together my best cruise tips and 6 pre-cruise checklists to help you avoid costly surprises and board with confidence.
📖 Get them here: calvinrusk.com
You booked the cruise and stopped checking the fare, because nobody wants to see a cheaper price later. You bought half a suitcase of things the ship may already provide. Most cruisers over sixty think a free upgrade means one thing: a better cabin. Sometimes it does. But some of the best free upgrades never come with a bigger balcony. They come as onboard credit you never claimed, a loyalty level you never matched, or a price drop nobody called to tell you about.

03:01 - #9 Tell Them What You're Celebrating Before You Sail
04:16 - #8 Accessibility Equipment: Ask Before You Buy or Pack It
05:19 - #7 What the Ship Provides, What You Bring
06:25 - #6 Ask for a Solution, Not a Free Upgrade
07:45 - #5 Match the Loyalty Status You Already Earned
09:02 - #4 Military Onboard Credit: Verify Before You Sail
10:11 - #3 Shareholder Onboard Credit: Claim It Before the Cruise
11:34 - #2 Check Your Loyalty Benefits Before Paying Onboard
12:53 - #1 Watch the Price After You Book
14:27 - Ask Informed Questions, Not for Free Stuff
I'm Calvin Rusk. I'm 65, and after enough cruises I've learned asking saves me more than hunting for the cheapest fare. What I ask about: the comfort items already onboard, the celebration you note before you sail, accessibility equipment before you buy it, what the ship provides for your CPAP, a real cabin problem (ask for the solution, not the prize), the loyalty status you can match, the military benefit with a deadline, the shareholder credit you can't claim onboard, the perks your loyalty tier already covers, and number one, the closest thing on this list to a real free cabin upgrade. Which line did you sail last, and did it honor any of these? I read every single one. Next time: the one thing left switched on in the cabin that can cost money or sleep by the second day.
