Hurricane Polo Slams Mexico Twice! 🌀 Massive Waves, Roads Turn Into Rivers, Homes Flooded

Hurricane Polo slammed Mexico twice, unleashing massive flooding, destructive winds, powerful waves and widespread damage across Baja California Sur and Sonora. Roads turned into rivers, homes flooded, trees came down and electricity was disrupted as the hurricane battered communities across northwestern Mexico. Polo first struck Baja California Sur as a Category 2 hurricane before crossing the Gulf of California. Communities across Comondú faced destructive winds, torrential rain and coastal flooding. In Puerto San Carlos, powerful waves and storm surge breached a protective embankment, pushing seawater into streets and residential areas. Water entered homes, trees fell and hundreds of residents sought shelter. Power outages added to the destruction across Baja California Sur, where 17,673 customers were affected during an early update. Heavy rainfall created another major threat, with storm totals capable of triggering dangerous flash floods, mudslides and additional road damage across vulnerable communities. After crossing the Gulf of California, Hurricane Polo made a second landfall near Guaymas, Sonora, as a Category 1 hurricane. Torrential rainfall flooded streets and damaged property as the storm moved inland. More than 500 people evacuated to shelters while emergency teams deployed food, drinking water and equipment for response operations. Polo’s impacts extended into Sinaloa, where intense rainfall caused localized flooding and road closures. Around Mazatlán, authorities closed seven road locations because of accumulated water and assisted occupants of a vehicle stranded in flooding. Schools were suspended across several municipalities as heavy rain and hazardous conditions disrupted travel and daily life. Even as Polo weakens over Mexico’s mountainous terrain, the danger is not over. Heavy rainfall can continue triggering life-threatening flash floods and mudslides after hurricane-force winds disappear. Dangerous surf and rip currents also remain a threat along portions of the Baja California peninsula and northwestern Mexican coast.
