Description
Peter Kalnbach is a street photographer from Hamburg, Germany, who shoots in a cool, moody, neo-noir style that feels like it’s straight out of a movie. He loves wandering around big cities, capturing everyday life with a cinematic twist.
He got into photography around 2017 during a trip to New York, and it quickly became his thing. Peter spends hours exploring cities, watching how people move and how the environment shapes the vibe. His photos often feature silhouettes, layered compositions, and that dramatic lighting that gives everything a story-like feel. It’s not your typical bright, happy street shots, he goes for the darker, more emotional side of city life.
Besides taking pictures, he runs workshops where he shares his approach. In Hamburg he does one-on-one sessions, and he also offers group workshops (often in low light) teaching people how he finds scenes, composes shots, and edits for that signature cinematic look. He’s even got some coming up in the fall.
Peter is pretty active in the scene. He co-founded WORLDWIDE STREETS, a community project with exhibitions and publications. His work has been in a bunch of shows across Europe, the US, and Japan, including solo exhibitions like “Solitude” and upcoming ones in Berlin, New York, and Venice. He’s picked up awards and finalist spots in competitions like the Berlin Photo Awards, World Street Photo Awards, and others.
You can find him featured in places like Sony Alpha Universe, WhiteWall, and various photo magazines and podcasts. He’s all about traveling, shooting in real conditions, and staying true to that moody, visual storytelling vibe.
If you like atmospheric street photography that feels moody and filmic, Peter’s stuff is definitely worth checking out. Super approachable guy who clearly loves what he does.
