The Night of the 12th (2022) Movie Explanation | The Murder Nobody Could Solve

The Night of the 12th (2022) is a French crime thriller directed by Dominik Moll. The film follows Captain Yohan Vivès, a newly promoted police investigator assigned to the brutal murder of Clara Royer, a young woman who is set on fire by a masked attacker while walking home. Working alongside experienced detective Marceau, Yohan investigates Clara's relationships and questions several men from her past. Each suspect has a different story, and some reveal disturbing attitudes toward Clara. As the investigation continues, the detectives uncover conflicting statements, possible motives, and troubling evidence, but none of their leads provides a clear answer. The case gradually becomes an obsession for Yohan. Years pass, yet Clara's killer remains unidentified. The investigation challenges the detectives' assumptions about violence against women, the way victims are judged, and the limits of police work when evidence fails to reveal the truth. Starring Bastien Bouillon, Bouli Lanners, and Mouna Soualem, this gripping mystery is inspired by a real unsolved murder case. Unlike conventional crime thrillers, the film does not provide a neat resolution, leaving viewers with the unsettling reality that some murders remain unsolved.
