Description
Survival food, military-inspired energy bars, emergency rations — 1,200 calories in a six-bar pack, no cooking required when eating, and simple pantry ingredients. Discover how oats, honey, peanut butter, and roasted nuts can become compact homemade survival food.
Long before modern energy bars became popular, soldiers and travelers needed portable food that could be eaten without stopping to cook. Inspired by that practical idea, I'm making a dense survival ration using malt syrup, honey, oats, almonds, peanuts, pumpkin seeds, and raisins.
The process begins with a sticky honey-malt syrup, followed by roasting the nuts and oats, mixing everything together, pressing the mixture into a compact block, and baking until the bars hold their shape. Each portion is then individually wrapped for convenient handling and storage.
This is a modern military-inspired energy bar, not a verified historical US Army recipe. The estimated 1,200 calories refers to a pack of six 200-calorie bars, not one individual bar. Actual calories depend on the ingredient quantities and portion sizes.
