Description
The modern space race has already begun, and NASA has an ambitious plan not only to return to the Moon, but to establish a permanent presence there.
In this video, we will explore NASA’s complete plan from 2026 through 2032 and beyond, showing what is expected to happen each year and during each mission, while highlighting the most important milestones. It all begins at the lunar south pole, a major departure from the Apollo missions. The region presents additional challenges, but they are outweighed by everything the lunar south pole has to offer.
Later in 2026, following the Artemis II mission (which took place in April) additional launches are still planned before the end of the year to deliver cargo, including the FLIP rover.
From that point on, each year brings even more significant milestones. In 2027, NASA plans to deploy the Lunar Pathfinder satellite, the PROSPECT package, the VIPER rover, and conduct a low-Earth-orbit test related to the Artemis III mission.
Artemis III is especially important because the spacecraft that leaves Earth is not the same vehicle that will land on the Moon. The complete Artemis IV mission profile is expected to work as follows: four astronauts will first launch aboard Orion on a rocket. Orion will then travel to the Moon, where it will rendezvous with the HLS (the Human Landing System). Two astronauts will transfer to the HLS and descend to the lunar surface, while the other two remain in orbit around the Moon. Artemis III will therefore play a crucial role in testing the entire process of rendezvous, docking, and transferring between spacecraft.
The lunar landing is currently planned for 2028 as part of Artemis IV. That same year, Lunar Terrain Vehicles, or LTVs, Moonfall drones, and other important cargo are also expected to arrive on the Moon.
The following years will focus on early habitation and the establishment of a long-term human presence. NASA itself describes the plan in three phases:
Phase One: Learn, Test, Build (2026–2029)
Phase Two: Early Habitation (2029–2032)
Phase Three: Sustained Human Presence (2032–Beyond)
We will also explore one of the greatest challenges on the Moon, one that few people are aware of: regolith, or lunar dust. We will discuss the possibility of extracting water to produce oxygen and hydrogen, the use of local resources, and several other fascinating topics.
One of the defining features of this video is that every scene is presented with an unprecedented level of realism. Working from NASA’s official materials, I created realistic versions of the rovers, drones, robots, lunar modules, and other technologies. The video has been carefully structured to make you feel as though you were actually there. These are not conventional CGI renders, but realistic perspectives created using cutting-edge AI.
Throughout the creative process, I produced more than 600 scenes and worked with over 1,000 different images before completing the final video. The result is a production that combines science, NASA’s real-world plans, cinematic storytelling, and dramatization, accompanied by original music and narration.
