Description

Christians say Jesus is the Messiah. Judaism says he isn’t. And both are reading the same Hebrew Bible. So how can they come to completely opposite conclusions? It comes down to one question: Did Jesus actually do what the Messiah was supposed to do? Because traditional Judaism says there was a list. And you have to understand that list before you can understand the Jewish argument. We have to start with the word itself. “Messiah” comes from the Hebrew mashiach—the “anointed one.” But what did Jewish Scripture actually lead people to expect from that Messiah? And when Jesus arrived, did he accomplish those things? In this video, we examine the major reasons traditional Judaism does not accept Jesus as the Messiah, including the Jewish expectations surrounding world peace, the gathering of Israel, universal knowledge of God, the Temple, the Messiah’s connection to David, and the Torah. We’ll also look at one of the biggest differences between Christianity and Judaism: the Christian belief in the Second Coming. Christians believe Jesus will ultimately fulfill the remaining messianic promises when he returns. Traditional Judaism does not interpret those promises that way. This isn’t about attacking Judaism or Christianity. It’s about understanding why two faiths can read many of the same Scriptures and reach radically different conclusions about Jesus.
