Born to Hagar, Sarah’s Egyptian servant, Ishmael grew up in Abraham’s household before the birth of his younger brother Isaac changed his future. After Sarah demanded that Hagar and Ishmael leave, mother and son wandered through the wilderness of Beersheba. Their water ran out, and Hagar feared she would watch her son die. But God heard Ishmael. An angel called to Hagar, and God opened her eyes to a well of water that would save her son’s life. Follow Ishmael’s journey from his childhood with Abraham to his survival in the desert, his life as an archer in the wilderness of Paran, and the family he built. Explore God’s promise that Ishmael would become a great nation, his twelve sons who became tribal leaders, and his reunion with Isaac to bury their father. Based on the Book of Genesis, this Old Testament story brings together Abraham, Sarah, Hagar, Isaac, and Ishmael in an account of family conflict, separation, survival, and God’s care. Experience the story of Hagar and Ishmael through cinematic animation and discover the life behind one of the Bible’s often-overlooked figures.
