Scotland’s Most Notorious Ex-Gangster Passes Away: Paul Ferris Dies at 62, Family, Net Worth, Full Story & Biography Former Glasgow underworld figure, true-crime author, and subject of the film 'The Wee Man', Paul Ferris, has passed away at the age of 62 on October 6, 2026. In this breaking news update and complete life retrospective, we examine the details surrounding his passing. Ferris was admitted to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow after suffering from a short illness before passing away peacefully. Born in Blackhill, Glasgow in 1963, Paul Ferris grew up in a tough neighborhood and rose to notoriety in the 1980s as an enforcer for Glasgow crime godfather Arthur Thompson Snr. After a dramatic falling out with the Thompson family, Ferris became central to one of the most tumultuous eras in Scottish criminal history. In 1992, Ferris made headlines across the United Kingdom when he was acquitted of the murder of Arthur Thompson Jr after what was the longest and most expensive trial in Scottish criminal history at the time. After serving a prison sentence in the late 1990s for firearms charges, Ferris turned his life around, stepping away from crime to become a best-selling true crime author and security consultant. His life story was famously adapted into the hit movie 'The Wee Man' starring Martin Compston. We break down his complete biography—his youth in Glasgow, high-profile court cases, transition into writing, family life, children, estimated net worth, and how news of his passing is being received across Scotland and the UK.
