Description

Grab your copy of The UK HGV Driver's Guide 👇 https://terry-collins.opdivize.com/ 0:00 The two-pound diesel shock 1:12 Dave, the owner-driver 2:17 How diesel prices surged 3:59 Britain’s fuel supply problem 6:56 The refinery gap explained 8:24 The cost to one lorry 13:29 Tax, support and the pressure on businesses 18:49 What happens next for small operators Diesel has crossed two pounds a litre, and the people feeling the squeeze most are the hauliers keeping Britain supplied. In this video, I follow the money from the forecourt to the cab and show why the price of crude oil is only part of the story. I use Dave, a fictional owner-driver from Lincolnshire, to work through the real-world impact of higher diesel costs: fuel consumption, margins, empty mileage, cash flow and the struggle to pass surcharges on to customers. I also examine Britain’s shrinking refining capacity, imports, the Strait of Hormuz and the refinery gap pushing diesel prices higher. I look at fuel duty, VAT, white and red diesel, the effect on food prices, regional differences in Scotland, diesel theft and what could happen next for small operators. By the end, I explain why a fuel crisis that begins far from Britain can decide whether one lorry can keep moving.
